What does this mean? When you search on Google using a mobile device, search results will prioritize sites that are optimized for mobile devices. Sites that aren't up to par with mobile technology will suffer in the search results.
Google explains that for a site to be considered mobile-friendly, its text must be readable without zooming, its link buttons must be appropriately spaced, and the page must avoid horizontally scrollable content. Simply put, the site must be easily used on a mobile device.
The change will impact millions of websites. While it is impossible to determine precisely how many of the 177 million sites are mobile-friendly, it is estimated that only 381% of large enterprise sites (those with more than 1,000 employees) are up to date with the protocol.
For any business, this is a wake-up call: Make your site mobile-friendly or get lost in the searches that Internet users perform in search of your product or service.
